The Role of Bio-Regulatory Medicine in the case
of Functional Somatic Syndromes

Presenter: Dr. David W Lescheid

  • Dr Lescheid compares and contrasts the reductionist medical model with a systems medicine bioregulatory model especially in regards to treating conditions which effect the whole body function
  • Connections between apparently isolated conditions and other body systems and how to approach their treatment holistically with multi-target medicines

Navigating Functional and Biomedical Testing
for Successful Prescribing

Presented by: Vanessa Hitch

  • Adrenal testing
  • Pyrrole testing
  • Zinc and copper ratios
  • Relevant testing for dysbiosis

More Information

TOPIC 1: The Role of Bio-Regulatory Medicine in the case of Functional Somatic Syndromes

Understand shared pathophysiological networks of:

  • Constant pain
  • Unremitting fatigue
  • Persistent headaches
  • Bowel symptomatology
  • Psychological reactive states

TOPIC 2: The Mind and the Microbiome: Clinical Applications of the Gut-Microbiota-Brain Axis

It is well documented that the microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract have important physiological functions including synthesising certain vitamins, regulating metabolism, maintaining an appropriate immune system response and biotransformation of different environmental toxins. The most recent discoveries also suggest that the microbiota are critical components in the reciprocal relationship between the gut and the brain.

TOPIC 3: The Link Between Adrenal Fatigue and Dysbiosis - Prescribing Focus

The Enteric nervous system forms a mesh-like system of more than 500 million neurons that govern our gastro-intestinal tract. When our microbiome becomes dysfunctional, our enteric nervous system is affected causing wide-ranging disruption to our hypothalamic-pituitaryadrenal (HPA) axis. In dealing with adrenal fatigue and dysbiosis, we are compelled to ask 'Why are so many fatigue syndromes associated with disturbances of the microbiome, what is the link and where do we start with prescribing?'

TOPIC 4: Navigating Functional and Biomedical Testing for Successful Prescribing

Somatic and 'sick' syndromes can be multi-factorial and knowing where to start can make a huge difference to patient outcomes. Appropriate testing can reveal a great deal of information about our patient, provide a road-map for prescribing and is fundamental to quality patient care.

This topic will focus on navigating the appropriate tests, what they mean and how they can be utilised with body signs and clinical examination to arrive at the most accurate prescribing protocol.
